THE FIVE VIRTUES

THERE ARE FIVE PHYSICAL FACTORS THAT GOVERN A PEARL’S QUALITY. EACH FACTOR CONTRIBUTES TO THE RARITY AND THEREFORE THE VALUE OF EACH INDIVIDUAL PEARL.

These factors or virtues are: lustre, surface perfection, colour, shape and size.

THE FIRST VIRTUE – LUSTRE

Lustre is the surface glow, the deep mirror-like reflection of the light, or inner light. The better the quality and depth of the nacre the better the depth of colour, the better the lustre. Pearl Beach Pearls are sourced from the immaculate waters of Broken Bay and have a minimum nacre thickness of 1.2mm per side. This quality far exceeds the current Asian standard. The lustre of the Broken Bay pearls is exquisite and a direct result of the temperate and pristine waters in which they are nurtured.

THE SECOND VIRTUE – SURFACE

Obviously a pearl is considered more valuable when the surface imperfections are minimal, however they are natural and are proof of their genuineness.

THE THIRD VIRTUE – COLOUR

Akoya pearls have a wide spectrum of natural colours. While the cream is probably the most popular throughout the world, the best guide is to select the colour that best compliments your skin tone. All Pearl Beach Pearl colours are natural. They have not been treated, bleached or dyed in any way. Our natural colours begin at a deep silver blue and run through to silver pink, silver white, white champagne, pink gold and gold.

THE FOURTH VIRTUE – SHAPE

Many shapes are available, however perfectly round pearls are the rarest and consequently the most valuable. Pearl Beach Pearls aim for perfection.

THE FIFTH VIRTUE – SIZE

Pearls are measured in diameter increments of millimetres (mm). The Pearl Beach Pearls Akoya pearl ranges from 6 to 10mm. Most however are between 6.5 and 8mm.
